00:00 / 13:37

Ep.06- (September 23, 2021) How Your Family Relationships Determine Your Sh*tty Adult Relationships

Exciting news today, loves! We have our first listener letter! This listener asks “Do you think people who need family therapy go on to have sh*tty relationships with people they aren’t related to?” Quick Answer: YES!!

This episode discusses the correlation between the way you were raised and the kind of relationships you have in adulthood. It’s important to note that “relationships” doesn’t just refer to dating - these unhealthy relationship patterns appear in platonic friendships, too.

We have another listener letter today - and it’s a good one! What is the definition of a red flag? And why is it so common to overlook them?

Surprise, surprise this all begins in childhood. We are drawn towards what’s familiar. It’s ok to repeat these patterns - it’s only natural. But if you want to stop feeling the pain of unhealthy relationships, identify the difference between something that feels good and something that feels familiar.

That Sh*t Don’t Make SenseDontea' Mitchell-Hunter
00:00 / 18:03

Ep.02- (Feb 3, 2022) That Sh*t Don’t Make Sense

This episode is all about “incongruence.” You know that thing that happens when information, reality and behaviors just aren’t lining up? That’s incongruence. When this happens, it leaves the body in a state of confusion, anxiety, and even depression.

It can be difficult to ask for clarity when you find yourself in an incongruent situation. Oftentimes, trying to have an honest conversation to get to the truth can result in confrontation and gaslighting. Being told to “let it go”, that you’re being “too sensitive”, or that that “you’re taking things personally” are all manipulative tactics used to avoid providing clarity and plush blame back on you. Trust your gut. Don’t let anyone talk you out of it when you know someone is being dishonest, and love yourself enough to step away from situations or people that are unhealthy for you.

I don’t even need to tell you this. You know that feeling. You know when your intuition is telling you something. Don't ignore it! I can tell you, from personal experience, that it’s better to trust yourself right away than let things get worse.

How To Figure Out Who You Are So Others Won't Do It For YouDontea' Mitchell-Hunter
00:00 / 10:58

Ep.06- (March 31, 2022) How To Figure Out Who You Are So Others Won't Do It For You

Why is figuring out who you are so important? Well mainly so others don’t impose their own values and truths on you. When we let others lead us without questioning who we are, what we stand for, or what we do not tolerate, we lose ourselves.

Take the time to look inside and find a clear sense of your boundaries, expectations, values and desires. Without all the noise, you might be surprised to find what you really want. You can’t expect the people in your life to read your mind - figure out what’s important to you and then communicate and set boundaries accordingly. It can be scary and exhausting but I promise you it’s worth it!

How to Not Focus on the Fairytale: Should I Stay or Go?Dontea' Mitchell-Hunter
00:00 / 15:04

Ep.08- (April 27, 2022) How to Not Focus on the Fairytale: Should I Stay or Go?

Today’s episode is inspired by another listener question! They ask: “When I think about my past relationships, or even when I am in one, I always think about the good times, and then I get all confused and don’t know if I gave up or am giving up to soon. How will I know?”

Things tend to look better in the rearview. We remember the good times and skip over the bad. However, the relationship ended for a reason. That doesn’t mean that you can’t revisit that it. It just means that if you’re considering going back, you’re going to have to check in and see if they’ve changed - and even if YOU’VE changed. Otherwise, the relationship will likely end the way it did the first time.
